What to Expect

The Kahuterawa drains the hills south of the city and runs down to the Manawatū plains. From above, the stream winds through a gully of bush and farmland with Kahuterawa Road following it, a short drive from Massey University.

It is a spawning tributary of the Manawatū River. That means trout numbers change through the season: some fish stay all summer, but more arrive before spawning and some linger after, which is why Fish & Game says early and late season give more consistent success.
