LIGHTBOX Gallery & Art Supplies

LIGHTBOX Gallery & Art Supplies

Palmerston North's creative hub — a unique combination of gallery space and quality art supply store, nestled inside the Square Edge Building on The Square.

About LIGHTBOX Gallery & Art Supplies

LIGHTBOX Gallery & Art Supplies is one of Palmerston North's most distinctive creative spaces. Housed in the iconic Square Edge Arts Centre on The Square, LIGHTBOX combines a working gallery — exhibiting local and New Zealand artists — with a well-stocked art supply store serving artists, students, and creative hobbyists throughout the Manawatū region.

For the local arts community, LIGHTBOX is more than just a shop. It's a gathering place, a source of inspiration, and a genuine supporter of emerging and established New Zealand artists. The team are passionate about art in all its forms, and that passion shows in everything from the curated gallery programme to the range of materials stocked on the shelves.

The Gallery

Exhibiting Local Artists

The LIGHTBOX gallery space hosts a rotating programme of exhibitions featuring local Palmerston North and wider New Zealand artists. From painting and printmaking to mixed media and photography, the gallery showcases the breadth of creative talent in the region. Exhibitions change regularly, so there's always something new to see on each visit.

Supporting Emerging Artists

LIGHTBOX is committed to supporting emerging artists by providing accessible exhibition space and a supportive community. For many local artists, a LIGHTBOX show has been an important early step in their career.

Art Supplies

The supply store stocks a quality range of materials for painters, drawers, printmakers, and mixed media artists — from professional-grade acrylics, oils, and watercolours to papers, canvases, brushes, inks, and drawing materials. Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out, the LIGHTBOX team can help you find what you need.

Student and Hobbyist Friendly

LIGHTBOX stocks materials to suit all budgets and skill levels. Students from nearby Massey University and local high schools are regulars, and the team are always happy to give guidance on materials for specific projects or techniques.
